Dr. James Moller Presenting on:
“50 Years of Progress-Congenital Heart Disease”

Dr. James Moller from the University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital presented on 50 years of Congenital Heart Defects for our November meeting. Attendance was great and we were able to offer for the first time a call-in option where members were able to listen via telephone and watch as the conference was taking place. In attendance was Marilyn Gordon, one of the original founders of Parents for Heart and her son, Kevin. Dr. Moller’s presentation included promising news of what accomplishments have been made in the past 50 years and brings hopefulness to our families with children with Congenital Heart Defects. Some highlights were that the mortality rate has significantly declined and there are now currently more adults living with a Congenital Heart Defects than there are children with a CHD. Thank you to U of MN for hosting the meeting and to Dr. Moller for a presentation filled with hope for our families.

Invite family and friends for a fun time and a great cause.

• Post Event Summary:
The year's first event started out with a bang.

Seven of Each rocked the house.  The place was packed with friends, family, and others who generously support our great cause. 

We awarded many valuable prizes to some very excited attendees. The most sought after prize was a Brett Farve Jersey (happy winner shown below)

A great time was had by all and we raised over $3,500.00.

A special thanks to all who donated, volunteered, performed and attended this very successful event.

• Annual CHD Awareness and Heart Party at Children's Hostipals and Clinics Minneapolis Campus in the Education Center.

• Post Event Summary:
Another fun day at the annual Heart Party. Many families enjoyed the face painting, crazy hair, cookie decorating, candy walk, and the always fun pinota.

Officer Dan Ungurian and his k-9, Hero, came to visit. The kids enjoyed learning about Hero's improtant job with the Minneapolis Police Department, petting,

and shaking his paw. Thank you everyone for coming to celebrate Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week.

There were over 1,800 participants and together we raised over $195,000 for Children's cardiac program! Be sure to mark your calendars for June 25th, 2011 and join us for the next year's race.

One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the cardiac unit of Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, serving children in the Midwest.

Founder, Parent/Patient Advocate 1in100 was established to align resources and allies to support advocacy and policy initiatives.

• Post Event Summary:
August Meeting at the U of MN Amplatz Children’s Hospital August 28, 2010 For our August meeting, we had Annamarie Saarinen from 1 in 100 come and share her journey in starting 1 in 100. We had a great turn out for the meeting and in the informal gathering we learned a lot about 1 in 100 priorities. Annamarie started 1 in 100 to focus in on the policy making, since there are already so many great organizations to raise awareness and funds. Here is a quote from Annamarie’s presentation that was very inspirational: “There is no consolation in randomness. A parent must find purpose, a reason why their child is diagnosed with a disease/illness, even if there isn’t one.” We are very happy to have Annamarie here in Minnesota and proud that her family is a member of Parents for Heart.

Held at Chuck E Cheese's in Edina

• Post Event Summary:
It was real fun location for the kids as well as adults, there are games for all ages and skill levels. The kids enjoyed cheese pizza and treats while the adults were able to talk. The kids were asked to wear there Halloween Costumes, it was so much fun to see all the different characters.

It was a real fun location for the kids as well as adults, there were games for all ages and skill levels. The kids enjoyed party hats and heart cupcakes to celebrate their "heart journey." We hope to try a new location so we keep the kids having fun and entertained !

Held at Half Time Rec in St. Paul

• Post Event Summary:
We were able to raise a total of $4,014.00 for Parents for Heart. We had drawings for many great gift cards and other prizes. The grand prize was drawn from the entry ticket stub for a signed Jared Allen Vikings jersey. This event was a TREMENDOUS success!!! Thank you so much to all the boardmembers and Parents for Heart members that participated in the planning of this event. Thank you also to Parents for Heart members who helped sell tickets.
